Uniswap — an exchange without an order book, x·y=k

Uniswap has no order book where buyers meet sellers. One formula that keeps the product of a pool’s two tokens constant sets the price. Move it yourself to see why big trades and thin pools cost you.

A formula instead of an order book

Exchanges usually match orders like “sell 10 at this price” and “buy 5 at that.” Uniswap is different. A liquidity pool holds two tokens; put one in and the pool gives you the other. How much is set by one formula:

x · y = k — the product of the two token amounts in the pool must stay the same before and after a trade.

Add USDT and x grows; to keep the product, y (MOVN) must shrink, and that shrinkage is what you receive. The pool is run by a contract, not a company, so anyone can use it at any time and no account can be frozen.

In a deep pool even big trades stay on the gentle part of the curve; in a thin pool the same trade slides onto the steep part and you receive much less. That is price impact, and the slippage tolerance in swap screens is a safety catch: cancel if the price gets worse than this.

Mobick and Uniswap

The October 2026 Weekly Mobick News announced MOVN–USDT and WBMB–MOVN pools on BSC Uniswap. DEX use has become part of Mobick life — community classes teach Uniswap, and in an August 2026 members-only stream Oh said Mobick gave Mobickers their first DEX experience.

On the real route to BMB, Uniswap chains several pools. From BNB to WBMB it crosses BNB/USDT → USDT/MOVN → MOVN/WBMB, and price impact adds up in the shallow ones.

  1. Route. From B N B to W B M B, the swap crosses three pools. Uniswap chains the pools for you. You never have to pick the route.
  2. Depth. Each pool has its own depth. The last two hold about two hundred forty thousand dollars each. The shallow pools set the price.
  3. Predict. Your turn to predict. You swap twenty thousand dollars at once. How big is the price impact? Answer: about 27% (illustration). About twenty seven percent. A big slide. When the trade is large for the pool, you receive that much less W B M B.
  4. Smaller. The same route at one thousand dollars: about one point seven percent. If the confirmation screen shows more than one or two percent, swap less.
  5. Recap. Three checks before a swap. The token address, the price impact, and the approval amount.

The narration is synthesized speech.

Liquidity providers

People who deposit both tokens into a pool are liquidity providers (LPs). Swap fees (tiers such as 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.3%) go to them. But if the two tokens’ prices diverge a lot, LPs can end up worse off than simply holding — impermanent loss. In the August 2026 home-mining stream, Oh said the MOVN–USDT pool was deliberately seeded with little USDT to encourage users to provide liquidity.

Summary

  • Uniswap sets prices with x·y=k instead of an order book; pools are run by contracts.
  • The bigger the trade relative to the pool, the bigger the price impact; slippage tolerance is a safety catch.
  • Before swapping: token address, pool depth, approval scope.
