Why move the ledger
Mobick’s 2019 mainnet was a hard fork of Bitcoin, so it carried ten years of Bitcoin’s ledger plus clutter like wallets handed to acquaintances in 2019 and later blocked. In the 24 December 2025 stream, Oh Taemin called it a temporary home and announced a move to a permanent one.
Two reasons:
- Smart money — attach a sidechain (layer 2) to the new mainnet so smart contracts like consols and lending can run. The mainnet becomes a registry of state rather than a high-throughput payment rail, and proof of work stays.
- Getting ready to go public — per a 20 August 2026 members-only stream, opening the old forked ledger to public mining could let big miners tangle it. A clean ledger holding only final balances can go public safely.
The name: a port that lit the world
New Bedford, Massachusetts, was the world’s greatest whaling port in the 19th century. Captain Ahab sails from it in Moby-Dick — the novel behind Mobick’s name. Whale oil lit the world’s nights, so the city’s motto is Lucem Diffundo, “we spread light.” For a project whose philosophy is “whale hunting,” no name fits better.
Read blocks #0 and #1 yourself
The new mainnet’s first block was created on 11 January 2026 at 00:00 UTC (09:00 in Korea). Like Bitcoin’s block 0 with its newspaper headline, it carries words. Press the button and this page asks the explorer directly and decodes the coinbase hex into text.

- #0:
Nova Bedfordia - Lucem Diffundo (New Bedford, We light the World). As with Bitcoin, the genesis reward is unspendable. - #1: the short tag
OTVS(Otaverse) and 19,687,503.125 BMB to one address — all user balances and public goods to be migrated, in a single block, later split out to users’ UTXOs and the new public-goods wallets. From block #2 the reward is back to 3.125 BMB.
382,060 moves
The plan was to move everything on 11 January, but coordination with LBank pushed the actual migration to the Lunar New Year holiday, 17 February 2026, with both chains running side by side meanwhile. It was carried out on a live stream.
Balances were not copied as numbers. As the basics track showed, a balance is a sum of UTXOs, so each UTXO was verified and rebuilt on the new ledger. Each dot below is one UTXO — all 382,060 of them.

- Left behindThe Bitcoin ledger copied in at the 2019 fork. It is not on the new mainnet; the old records live only in the legacy explorer — one reason whale hunting changed method.

What about whale hunting?
The old chain held Bitcoin’s ten-year ledger, originally meant for letting dormant Bitcoin holders claim Mobick. The new chain dropped it. Abandoned? The 24 December 2025 answer was “no, the method changes”: for example, copy a dated Bitcoin ledger into a separate chain and let people claim Mobick by signing in an app. No date or ratio has been set.
Summary
- New Bedford dropped the forked Bitcoin ledger and moved to a clean mainnet with final balances only.
- #0 reads “Nova Bedfordia - Lucem Diffundo”; #1 holds “OTVS” and 19,687,503.125 BMB.
- On 17 February 2026, user balances — 382,060 UTXOs (235,230 addresses, 3,879,641.131 BMB) — were verified and moved one by one. Not the whole old chain: what was not needed was left behind and public goods were consolidated.
- Purpose: smart money and readiness to go public. Whale hunting continues in a new form.

Q1How were balances moved in the New Bedford upgrade?
A balance is a sum of UTXOs, so each UTXO was verified and rebuilt — 235,230 addresses, 3,879,641.131 BMB.
-
Q2How much did the coinbase of new block #1 hold?
All user balances and public goods to be moved were put into block #1 at once, then split out to users and the new public-goods wallets. From #2 on it is 3.125 BMB per block.
-
Q3Where does the name “New Bedford” come from?
Its whale oil lit the world, and the city’s Latin motto is “Lucem Diffundo” — we spread light. Those words are in the new mainnet’s block #0.
